VI. Information
) q u i c k d e s c r i p t i o n: A cunning, obstinate brown tabby with golden hints and gold-green eyes.
) a p p e a r a n c e: Clawstar’s fur is a dusty brown color, with slashes of lighter and darker brown. His tabby stripes occasionally have edges that are more golden than tan; he prides himself on this feature, as he feels that he looks more like a leader with his golden-brown highlights. His chest and underbelly are a tan-cream color, with none of the rest of his body’s stripes. Clawstar’s tail, like most tabbies’ tails, have rings on them instead of stripes, which gradually get darker and darker as the tail extends, and his tail-tip is a very dark shade of brown, as if it were dipped in some type of slightly-colored ink.
His eyes are mainly a dark-toned yellow, with spots of green around the center. Little green lightning bolts extend from the green circle, giving his eyes an even less bright look than they had before. They still keep on shining, however; Clawstar, as you will read below, loves to deceive, and nothing is better for deceiving than innocent-looking eyes. When he's up to something, his eyes usually glint mischievously, but he tries to keep that under control so his plans aren't figured out.
On the RisingClan leader’s forehead is the traditional “M”-shaped mark that all tabbies carry, which is made up of two stripes, both in nearly complete "N"-shapes. The mark is the color of one of the earlier rings on his tail. Tan-cream fur encircles his shining lemon-lime eyes. Clawstar’s nose is bright pink, with nearly-black fur lining it. His paw-pads are a paler type of pink, almost fading into his brown tabby paws. Clawstar has no special build, but his white claws, though not too long or thick or powerful-looking, are hooked slightly, like a small bird of prey's talons, and very sharp at the tips. ) p e r s o n a l i t y: Clawstar is a cunning, witty leader, and likes to think of himself as the fox of the forest. He doesn’t hesitate to say what he thinks in certain situations, but in other places, he keeps to himself. He is short-tempered and practical, equipped with a very no-nonsense attitude, but he will help himself to a joke occasionally (provided it’s at another cat’s expense). Most of these jokes are mirthless, to show the other cat who’s boss, but some have a trace of humor in them.
Clawstar's favorite pastime is deception, though ambushing is a close second. Often he sneaks up on cats of his own Clan with the intention of a joking apprentice and the expression of a vengeful enemy. He loves to watch cats' faces as they realize that he has ambushed them, maliciously or not. Deception is even better, in his view. Clawstar is not what most cats would classify as a bi-polar individual, but he does have what some call a bi-polar voice. When he's angry, he doesn't just shout; he sweet-talks the cat his anger is focused on into believing that he thinks they're great. Then he lashes out, fury tainting every single word he speaks.
Clawstar's system of justice and punishment is very simple. Cats who have committed minor offenses need not explain themselves; they will receive minor, harmless punishments. Major offenders will be allowed to explain themselves if there is a possible explanation for their behavior. For instance, cats involved in eating on a hunting patrol will simply be forced to go on a few more hunting patrols that day, while cats involved in forbidden love will be exiled on the spot (he believes that there is no good reason for that type of behavior), and cats involved in murder or attempted murder will be asked to explain themselves and then, if decided a murderer with no good purpose, will be either exiled or killed.
When he has plans, he thinks very thoroughly about them, and tries to win cats over to his time with charisma and fake friendliness. Slips of the tongue are uncommon from the RisingClan leader; he takes pride in his ability to speak carefully but not hesitate or look unsure of himself. What Clawstar wants most is power, for both himself and his Clan, but he tries to be content with what he has now. As a warrior, he wouldn’t have killed to become leader of RisingClan, nor as a deputy (though he did attempt once to overthrow his leader). But now he feels that there is no cat in the Clan whose status he desires, so he has stopped climbing the RisingClan ladder and has moved onto the forest ladder.
He would not want to be burderned with control over all the Clans, but he does want more territory and more warriors. He does not like rogues or loners, but any promising cats like that might be accepted into RisingClan. Despite his want for more cats, he refuses to take in even the most promising kittypets, or cats who have left their original Clan and want to find a new home. Clawstar is authoritative, and while he does work hard for his Clan like any warrior should, he uses his power as an excuse to not work when he has other matters to attend and a warrior wants him on a hunting patrol.
) h i s t o r y: Clawstar began his life as Thornkit, brother of Cloverkit and son of Blackfire and Dawnriver. RisingClan flourished at the time, led by Rowanstar, a fair but foul-tempered reddish brown tom. Rowanstar made sure that everyone was doing their job, and he helped with every job, from assisting the apprentices in cleaning out the elders’ bedding to patrolling the borders of RisingClan’s territory, keeping an eye out for enemy warriors. Thornkit and Cloverkit were lucky to grow up in a time when RisingClan’s fresh-kill pile was stocked and borders virtually uncrossed. But change was on the horizon.
Thornkit and Cloverkit, like most kits, loved play-fighting and hunting moths and such. But instead of having ordinary ambitions, they had more unique aspirations: Cloverkit hoped to become the medicine cat of RisingClan, while Thornkit hoped to become the leader. Thornkit told almost everyone about what he wanted to do, but Cloverkit stayed silent, thinking that the less greedy you seemed, the more likely it was that you would get the position. This was poor judgment on her part, for her future mentor was far from a medicine cat, but she was just a kit. Thornkit’s judgment was poor as well, but eventually he got his wish.
As soon as Thornkit and Cloverkit hit six moons, Rowanstar named them apprentices. They were both equally jubilant; they had chattered about being apprentices ever since they were able to talk. Thornkit’s mentor was a dark-furred tom named Ashwing, and Cloverkit’s mentor was Ashwing’s brother, the powerful Berrycloud, who was the Clan deputy. Thornpaw and Cloverpaw were both fairly attentive, obedient apprentices, but Cloverpaw had a tendency to be too tentative and Thornpaw had a tendency to be too outgoing.
Ashwing was as sinister to Thornpaw as his fur. Ashwing was a fierce, strict mentor who wanted and expected only the best. He had zero tolerance for goofing around and getting off-task. Thornpaw was not the type to do that frequently, of course, but occasionally he snapped and had to get all that craziness off his chest. His sister exploded with cheeriness more often, but less violently, so Berrycloud was more tolerant of her. The RisingClan deputy was much like his brother, but he had a slightly better sense of humor and a more convincing array of tones that he could use in his voice. This was what got him the deputy position.
Two thirds of the way through their apprenticeship, a large battle erupted between RisingClan and a band of rogues. The stronger cats in the group made quick work of draining all of Rowanstar’s lives from him, but they still had Berrycloud and Ashwing to confront. The two warriors practically slaughtered the rogue band (with some help from their apprentices and the other warriors), and the group retreated. The brothers’ fury had won the battle, but Cloverpaw and Thornpaw were badly scarred. In honor of their performance, the newly-named Berrystar renamed them: Cloverpaw became Slashpaw and Thornpaw became Clawpaw.
Slashpaw died from her wounds soon after being granted a new name. Clawpaw requested that, when it came time for his warrior ceremony, he be named Clawslash, in honor of his fallen sister. Berrystar approved his request, and a couple moons later, Clawslash joined the ranks of the RisingClan warriors. A few days later, however, Ashwing (the new deputy) and Blackfire went hunting and were attacked by a badger. Blackfire was killed; Ashwing wisely backed out of the fight before he met his own demise. Reinforcements arrived, at his request, but Dawnriver fell to the badger’s strong paw as well before the creature left.
Clawslash had participated in the fight, and had performed quite well, so Berrystar rewarded him with an apprentice, by the name of Riverpaw. Riverpaw was a bold, confident young cat, much like Thornpaw was in his day, but the apprentice’s nature was the end of him. Riverpaw bravely attacked an enemy Clan patrol on the fringes of their territory one day. Angered by this unprovoked ambush, the leader of the patrol fought back with sharp, unsheathed claws. Riverpaw’s wounds, like Slashpaw’s, were fatal. Now Clawslash’s only connection in the Clan was his sister’s mentor, for Ashwing died while Riverpaw fought.
It was in a violent border scuffle. An enemy warrior dug their teeth too deep into the RisingClan deputy’s neck, and Clawslash’s mentor joined StarClan. Clawslash discovered this upon returning to camp with a hurt Riverpaw dangling from his jaws. That night, Berrystar announced the new deputy. Clawslash was shocked—but pleased—to hear his name coming from the leader’s mouth. Full of excitement, he took on the various duties that his mentor had before him, such as organizing patrols, keeping cats in line, and helping out the warriors do their jobs. This boosted his pride level and made him, though not yet vain, very arrogant.
Berrystar, he soon found out, was prouder and lazier than his predecessor. While Rowanstar had done warrior duties just like Berrycloud, Berrystar ignored that nagging thought at the back of his mind. He let Clawslash and his warriors do most of the work in the Clan. Clawslash, though not openly, began to rebel. He spread rumors of Berrystar’s laziness, and of his plot to overthrow the leader. Not kill him—Clawslash would not stop so low—but overwhelm him with an angry crowd of cats who wanted assistance from the one in charge. Clawslash’s plan did not work, but a fox killed Berrystar soon after the plan formed.
Proud of his achievement, Clawslash named a deputy and journeyed to receive his nine lives. Clawslash disappeared and Clawstar, leader of RisingClan, returned, and life (for Clawstar, at least) has been running fairly smoothly ever since then.

Part 2: Role-playing Prompts

at the gathering, the eveningclan leader accuses a warrior of risingclan of stealing off of their territory. they claim a patrol saw footprints leading off of their territory. how do you react to this accusative statement? you had been monitoring the warriors that left risingclan territory often, and saw no sign that warriors had done this. not only this is a sign of proof, but also the fact that risingclan was bountiful in prey, and risingclan warriors aren't accustomed to hunting off of their territory. what words do you use to defend your clan? how do you turn the story around to prove risingclan's loyalty and fight for the truth?
c l a w s t a r tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow RisingClan thieves? What a laugh!
Clawstar had a hunch about what was up. An EveningClan cat had stolen prey from RisingClan territory, and wanted to accuse them before RisingClan discovered the evidence. Thieves! Liars! Do you honestly think I’ll believe you weasels? He stepped forward, eyes narrowed and teeth bared, preparing to speak, his future words running through his head.
“We are not thieves, Dawnstar,” he began, the words slipping off his tongue like fish off a paw. “We have no reason to invade your territory. As far as I know, my warriors have kept to RisingClan’s territory. All you have as evidence is the word of one patrol. How do you know RisingClan cats made those footprints? How do you know it wasn’t FallingClan, or SunsetClan, or maybe even rogues?”
If cats could grin, Clawstar would’ve flashed one at Dawnstar of EveningClan, and it would have been the mirthless grin above all mirthless grins. But cats can’t grin, so the RisingClan tabby had to settle for a small, knowing smirk. “How do you know it’s even cats? Perhaps a small fox who had been through our territory wandered onto yours. You never know, now do you.”
I hope it was a fox, and that it steals all your kits! he added silently, but refrained from saying his thoughts out loud. Instead, his next words were, “Or maybe one of your warriors took prey from our territory and got RisingClan scent on him, and then he went back for more prey? Think before you accuse, Dawnstar. Or did you know your warrior was a thief?” His voice was innocent.
“Maybe you’re just trying to cover your own tracks up. Maybe some cat really did steal from your territory. But I cannot apologize, as I highly doubt my warriors have strayed from their own territory, and even if they have, I’m not sorry.” Clawstar’s inoffensive expression changed to a scornful sneer in just one second. “So stop whining and, next time, think it over before speaking.”

the current risingclan deputy has been seen on and off of the borders of fallingclan, stirring up trouble between the clans. he's been having a secret affair with a fallingclan she-cat, and it's spread between all of the clans. and you also learn that he has gotten her pregnant with kits. you are angered beyond imaginable. what are the things running in your mind at this moment? how are you going to punish your deputy? and how are you going to deal with kits?
c l a w s t a r tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow “Sootwind.”
Clawstar’s voice was firm, barely masking his anger at the smoky black RisingClan deputy, who was approaching the leaders’ den currently. Sootwind had gotten far too arrogant lately, thinking he could have an affair with a FallingClan she-cat. It was bad enough that love had led him astray from his duties in the first place. But forbidden love? Unacceptable.
Clawstar made an effort to hide his fury, but it was no use. The tabby cat hissed, “Pray tell me, what is your problem? You’re my deputy, for StarClan’s sake! You can not run around with non-RisingClan she-cats. They are of impure blood. If you must have kits, then make them pure-blooded and true, and make sure that we can keep them, you disgrace!”
He paused to let his words sink in before going on, “Sootwind, you are supposed to set an example for the other RisingClan cats. Instead, you have chosen to lead everyone astray. Do you have no sense of loyalty? No sense of honor? No sense of respect for the warrior code that your mother and mentor both drilled into your head? What kind of warrior are you?”
Clawstar’s lemon-lime eyes focused their gaze on the deputy. “I am stripping you of your rank and exiling you,” he meowed. “Go to FallingClan so you can love this she-cat and be loyal at the same time. You couldn’t live with a paw in both lives, so you chose one. You have chosen wrong, and you must face the consequence, which is exile.” A smirk formed on his face.
“You think you won it all? You got a pretty little she-cat from FallingClan padding after you, you’ll soon have some half-Clan kits, and you’re the deputy of RisingClan. Huh!” Clawstar sneered, his gold-green stare cold and mocking. “Newsflash! Everyone knows about it and I don’t tolerate it. You are a pitiful excuse for a deputy, and you know it.” You should, anyway…
“The kits may stay in FallingClan. They belong with their mother. As for whether FallingClan’s leader will allow you to join…that is not up to me.” The RisingClan tabby took a few steps forward, brushing Sootwind aside as he did. Clawstar leapt onto the meeting place, his voice strong but scornful as he called for the cats to gather. Time to publicly shame Sootwind.
“Sootwind has decided that he is not suited for Clan life,” Clawstar began. His words were tactful, but his expression was disdainful as he glanced at his deputy. “He has decided to meet with a FallingClan she-cat and mate with her. She is bearing his kits; they’ll be left in FallingClan. But something must be done about him.” He cast an accusing gaze over Sootwind.
“Sootwind, you have broken an important part of the warrior code. You are no longer the RisingClan deputy, or any RisingClan cat. If you are seen on RisingClan territory after dawn tomorrow, my warriors have my permission to attempt to kill you.” Clawstar smirked. “Begin your journey now, and you might live to see the sun set tomorrow.”
